Prior to running her holistic nutrition & health coaching practice, Somie was a nursing major in college and worked in the medical field for over six years. She quickly discovered that even though she enjoyed the field, she needed a change. Luckily stumbling into massage school, she became a licensed Massage Therapist and Master Esthetician. For over twelve years she enjoyed this profession while starting her family.
Both her children were eventually diagnosed with asthma by the age of one, which meant countless trips to the pediatrician and specialists for chronic pneumonia, bronchitis, ear infections, eczema and soon after, ADD, and anxiety. Even with surgeries and baskets of medications, relief was always just temporary. This led Somie to exhaustion, fear and even guilt...but with her medical background, she knew it could get much worse. She began searching for a better way to tackle her children’s health issues and regain control of their well-being.
Through her IIN training, she learned how to live a truly “holistic” life and, in the meantime, she was able to ditch the medications for real foods, natural remedies; most importantly, the fear abated and she and her family now live a happier and healthier life and both children are symptom free!
Jennifer came to health coaching while looking for ways to help her anxious son. While on this very personal journey, it became obvious that there are countless kids and parents who are also stressed and overwhelmed -- who need immediate and concrete techniques to manage every day anxiety. Mindfulness, movement and nutrition became essential tools in her tool box for herself and her family and, slowly, they have started to gain the upper-hand and move forward. While anxiety and stress are not removed from their lives, they now have a consistent approach for how to manage it.

Jennifer's coaching practice focuses on optimizing family wellness by helping parents and children manage challenges that may interfere with their overall health and well-being. Techniques to optimize family wellness include learning about mindfulness and deep breathing exercises and identifying family “flash points.” Jennifer is a Duke Integrative Medicine trained, nationally board certified integrative health coach. She is also a classically trained Pilates instructor and holds a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Virginia.
